
BOYDS, MD — The Women’s Premier Division kicked off Saturday, whittling 16 teams down to just four in the hunt for a national title. Sunday morning will see Navy, American International College, Southern Nazarene and back-to-back-to-back champion Brown.
The Bears took care of business against UConn, 38-0, to start the weekend, with wing Charlotte Davies scoring twice. They continued to dominate, 36-0, in their quarterfinals win over West Chester.
Navy took the win against St Bonaventure, 45-7, in the opening round, and followed it up with an impressive 21-5 win against Queens. Navy and Brown will get their shot at the final with a semifinal match at 11 a.m. ET Sunday.
Reigning XVs national champion Southern Nazarene started strong, with a 24-10 win over Aquinas and a 24-0 shutout of Long Island University in the opening rounds. XVs Player of the Year Telesi Uhatafe made a quick rebound to join the team Saturday, playing Friday in Chicago for the United States against Canada in the Pacific Nations 4.
AIC opened with a 42-0 win over Walsh with two notable tries from center Mahina Hafoka. The Yellow Jackets gave New Haven a little more leeway, 12 points, while still putting on 53 of their own. The Crimson Storm and the Yellow Jackets will face off at 11:20 a.m. Sunday.
Currently in the lead for tries and points scored in the women’s premier division is New Haven’s Sereana Vulaono, with six tries and 30 points. For conversions, Julia Murray of Brown leads with seven.
