The Collegiate Rugby Championship is the largest college sporting event in the country with 1,800 athletes and coaches in attendance. Since its inception in 2010, the Collegiate Rugby Championship has regularly drawn 20,000 fans and included national broadcast partnerships with ESPN and CBS Sports.
The divisional match-ups and seeding were announced last week and during the Selection Saturday Show held on April 22. The Selection Saturday Show was hosted live on The Rugby Network.
Of the 122 teams headed for DC, 82 earned their way via qualification, either through a conference championship or an open national qualifier, making this the most qualified and meritocratic field in the CRC’s 13-year history. The remaining teams have been invited as at-large participants based on the team’s results during the Spring 7s season.
This is the first year the Collegiate Rugby Championship will be held in the Capital Region. NCR chose the Maryland SoccerPlex which will provide five high-quality Bermuda grass pitches that will be fully lined with rugby goal posts. The adjacent stadium will host the premier and championship matches.
