BOYDS, Md. – It would appear nobody is safe from the theme of upsets this weekend, as another top seed fell in the Women’s Division II. This time it was defending National Champion Wisconsin-Eau Claire, knocked off by New Mexico State, 19-15.
In Sunday’s semifinals, No. 4 seed Marist will take on No. 2 seed Roger Williams at 10:42 a.m. E.T. Immediately following that semifinal will be No. 1 seed Coast Guard taking on No. 2 seed Towson in the West Region.
In the East Region, the Aggies could not replicate their upset when they lost 26-7 to Marist, who opened their day with a 21-5 victory over Syracuse. In the bottom half of the bracket, Roger Williams opened with a 10-0 victory against William & Mary before claiming a convincing 29-7 win over Bowling Green.
Out in the West region, it was all chalk as No. 1 seed Coast Guard opened with a 20-7 win against Wisconsin-La Crosse and followed that up with a 25-12 triumph over Colorado Mesa. In the bottom half of the bracket, second-seed Towson cruised past Arkansas 31-12 before claiming a 26-10 win against Coastal Carolina.
The Division II scoring leader after one day of competition is Kaitlyn Boggs of Coast Guard with eight tries. She put up a hat-trick in the match with Wisconsin La Crosse and followed that performance by scoring all five tries against Colorado Mesa.
