Final Four Locked In for Women’s DI-AA Championship Sunday

BOYDS, MD — The competition on day one of women’s action at the Collegiate Rugby Championship was electric, and the Women’s DI-AA bracket is no exception. There were many impressive teams, but only Northeastern, Arizona State, Colorado State and Colorado will move on to the semifinals Sunday for a chance to hoist the trophy.

Tomorrow, spectators will witness a Rocky Mountain showdown between the Colorado State Rams and the Colorado Buffalos. Both earned their spots through slight upsets – the No. 4 Rams with a 17-12 win over top seed James Madison, and the seventh-seeded Buffs with a 28-14 win against two-seed Iowa.

Defending champion Northeastern snagged some close wins, starting the morning with a 17-7 win against Utah State. Wing Jolene Russo carried the Huskies to victory with two tries to beat Boise State, 10-7.

Arizona State blazed through the opening rounds with ease, beating NC State, 34-5 in the round of 16. The Sun Devils locked in once more to beat Ohio State, 17-0, earning their semifinal spot against Northeastern on Sunday.

Currently in the lead for tries, conversions and points is Ashtyn Kelly of North Carolina with five tries and five conversions, totalling 35 points. The DI-AA national championship will be at 2:30 p.m. ET on Sunday. All matches can be watched on NCR TV with the $19.99 weekend pass.
