Division II Title Race Heats Up: Coastal Carolina, Coast Guard, Mesa, and Eau Claire Reach Semifinals

BOYDS, MD — The race for the women’s Division II National Championship is off and running, with Coastal Carolina, defending champion Coast Guard, Colorado Mesa, and Wisconsin - Eau Claire still in the mix. 

Top seed Coastal Carolina narrowly escaped defeat in the opening round, winning, 12-0, over bottom seed Arkansas. The Chanticleers then secured their semifinal bid with a 17-10 nailbiter against New Hampshire.

Coast Guard beat Texas - San Antonio and Bowling Green by the same exact score of 17-7. Notable try scorers for the Bears include forwards Reagan Doyle and Anna Gredell, who scored twice each. Coastal and Coast Guard will play Sunday at 9:40 a.m. ET.

Colorado Mesa is set for their semifinal on Sunday at 10 a.m. ET against 2024 champion Eau Claire. The Mavericks had a smooth start to the day, winning 20-0 over South Florida, but were challenged in the quarterfinals by 2023 champion Roger Williams, escaping 24-15. Eau Claire earned its semifinal bid with a 24-14 win over Syracuse, followed by a tougher 7-0 slugfest shutout over Fairfield. 

Currently in the lead for tries and points scored is Elizabeth Breiby of New Hampshire. For conversions, Bowling Green’s Taylor Westrick leads with four. 

The DII Championship will be at 1:58 p.m. Sunday. All matches can be watched on NCR TV with the $19.99 weekend pass.
